Tavernole sul Mella is the administrative centre of a municipality also composed of the hamlets of Cimmo and Pezzoro, the latter is a fantastic base camp for the climb to Mount Guglielmo. Documented at the beginning of the 13th century, its importance reached its peak two centuries later, when, under the government of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, it became the seat of the Council of the Valley: the Assembly of the Representatives of the individual municipalities of Trompia Valley. Even today the coat of arms sums up figures and symbols referring to the three centres that compose it: the lion with a banner, referring to Pezzoro, the fir tree, which makes reference to the mountain environment of Cimmo placed on the slopes of Mount Stalletti, and the bridge, referring to the medieval bridge of Tavernole, which crossed over the river Mella. The building was renovated in 1857 and in 1929. Overlooking the small Martyr Square, paved with local grey stone slabs, it has on its facade a marble plaque dedicated to the Falls of the First World War. In the council hall, on the ground floor, an interesting fragment of fresco survives; it was executed in the 17th century. On it, there are three female figures that are probable allegories of the Trompia, Sabbia and Camonica valleys.
