APPROFONDIMENTI

La frazione di Cimmo

Located in the hamlet of Cimmo, among the oldest inhabitants of the Trompia Valley, the church is dedicated to the military nobleman from Brescia Calocero, which was killed for his faith in the 2nd century. The bone remains, which is particularly venerated by the locals, is what we can still see of the saint and it is in the pre- sbytery. In the past this church was one of the chapelsunder the control of the ancient parish church of San Giorgio in Bovegno, from which it became autonomous in the mid-‘400: its first testimony dates back to 1302. The current look, from the mid-‘700, is based on a project of Andrea Spiazzi, an architect from Como, who, in the same years, designed the church of San Bernardo in the hamlet of Magno di Bovegno. Outside we can see the bell tower with the typical onion-shaped dome overlooking the Valley, while the interior is characterised by a unique nave overlooking the altars, three of which preserve paintings from the mid-17thby the Brescian Pietro Scalvini: the Guardian Angel with the souls of purgatory and the Holy Trinity, the delicate Mysteries of the Rosary and the fainting of 5t Andrew Avellino. Magnificent in their exuberance, there are also two wooden ancones carved in the 16th by the Boscaì, famous carvers of the Pialorsi family of Levrange in Valle Sabbia.
